From a Scam Call to AntiScamAlert - A Community Project
My mother once received a video call – the caller mimicked the voice and face of a relative, crying and begging for money because they were 'in trouble'. Fortunately, my mother remained calm and didn't transfer the money, but I know many others were not so lucky. A neighbor of mine – a small grocery store owner – lost almost all her savings to prize-winning phone calls. A classmate of mine lost their bank account just by carelessly clicking on a fake bank link. These stories repeat, getting closer and closer, making it impossible for me to sit still.
I started asking: Why do scams still run rampant, even though we know they exist? And what can I do – even as a student – to change that?
- ✓Search for suspicious phone numbers: see how others have been called and scammed.
- ✓Report scam phone numbers: to help the community be more vigilant.
- ✓Learn about scam tactics via video call/AI through the Tips section: where sophisticated signs like fake face videos and small details in images that observant people can spot are updated.
I believe: when everyone is vigilant, shares, and speaks up, at least we are no longer alone. And if you have ever been scammed – or are afraid you will be – AntiScamAlert is here for you.
